Mysore, the capital city of the great Wodeyars, legendary kings, is a dream city where a rich heritage is preserved to this day, in its magnificent palaces, beautifully laid out gardens, imposing buildings and broad avenues.

Mysore Palace, is one of the largest palaces in the country, also known as Amba Vilas, was the residence of the Wodeyar Mahararaja's of the Mysore state. Designed in Indo-Saracenic style, the palace is a treasure house of exquisite carvings and works of art from all over the world.

The three storeyed building, 245 feet in length and 156 in breadth has a series of square towers with arches covered by domes. There is wide open space in the front and the open courtyard in the centre is covered by a gold-plated dome about 145 feet from the ground.

Lalith Mahal Palace is an other attraction of Mysore, set on a ridge commanding a panoramic view of a gently sloping and curving valley at the foot of the Chamundi Hill; this dream-like palace was built in the year 1931 for special guests of the Maharajas. The building is a majestic two-storey composition of twin ionic columns, a projecting porch on the ground floor, spherical domes with laterns and the central dome which dominates the elevation. The interior is a show-piece of the available skills of local craftsmen which can be seen in richly decorated walls and ceilings, carved wood shutters and wall panels.
